My name is Steve Lutsk and I'm a personal trainer and fitness model. I've been passionate about health and fitness for 10 years and I want to help you change your life. I know what works, and more importantly, what doesn't work. I wasn't blessed with great genetics or athletic ability. Just a few years ago, my body had zero definition. I had a small beer belly that rested nicely over my waistline. It's fair to say that my body was solely composed of skin, bone and fat. (Notice the lack of the word "muscle.")

My 'Before' Lifestyle

I was drinking beer, jager bombs and whiskey 5 or 6 nights a week, eating burgers and fried chicken every other meal and smoking cigarettes to handle the stress of college. I was gaining weight slowly and consistently and didn't realize my bathing suit no longer fit until I was actually at the beach. I couldn't lace the draw string through all of the loopholes because my love handles were preventing it from fitting properly. I couldn't even go in the water because the smallest wave would've washed my suit away to sea. I was becoming miserable.

I accepted that because of my genetics that this was just how it was going to be. I continued to eat unhealthy, drink excessively, smoke cigarettes and gain more weight. Clothes stopped fitting, and it no longer became necessary to wear belts on ANY of my pants (If I could even get them around my waist.)


I needed to find a solution and I needed a solution FAST. I started working out, stopped smoking cigarettes and toned down the boozing. I had early success, but it's hard not to see results when you work out 5 days a week for 2 hours at a time. I knew there had to be a faster, more efficient way to see results. After about 3 months, I was also reaching a physical plateau and getting super frustrated. Before I started Training with Steve, I was frustrated with my workout habits. I work long odd hours with a schedule that changes daily. I found myself slipping for a month or more at a time where "I couldn't find the time to work out". As horrible as that sounds, it was happening over and over again. I needed some motivation to get me back on a good track. Even if I wasn't working out everyday, anything regular would help change the "too busy" mentality.

Having scheduled times to workout with trainer gives you an appointment that you can't talk yourself out of. That seems to be the problem when trying to create a routine - the days when you could slip back in bed for another hour instead of going to the gym before work. Training is just what I needed to keep me accountable.

Steve builds workouts that target all different areas. I am seeing results in the areas I had created goals to see changes in but also am seeing them in areas that I didn't realize could use some work as well. The motivational factor has definitely kicked in. I feel like I am in better shape and want to keep going - see how far I can push myself.

When doing squats and lunges, I feel a definite increase in strength. My reps are faster and better balanced than they were before. I have taken some of the ab exercises we do, and started doing some reps at home as well.

Since Steve and I have been working out I've been wanting to go to the gym/find external physical activities more and more. I am also more conscious of what kinds of foods I am eating during different times of the day. Before training with Steve, I spent a lot of my workout time taking fitness classes at my local gym. I was intimidated by the idea of leaving the classroom and trying different training techniques on my own. I ended up repeating the same workouts week after week with few results. The nature of the workouts I was doing was purely cardio, and I didn't have much strength in my upper body because of it. Not to mention the repetition of the workouts got boring after a while and it made it harder to motivate myself to go to the gym at all.

I never worked out before meeting Steve. Sure, I used to have a membership at one of LA's swanky gyms to help combat the sedentary nature of my job - but if I actually went (which was rare), I'd call it quits after 15 minutes on the lowest treadmill setting possible. I've always been an athletic guy who loves to play sports and be outside. After the discipline of team sports in high school and college, I felt like I had no direction in my workouts. Thinking I was hot stuff at the gym with my friends, I ran on the treadmill and then lifted weights aimlessly for another hour. When I left, I thought to myself, "I just worked out, right? I had long fallen out of a solid gym routine. I was not really working out very much, I would go to the gym and maybe do the elliptical machine for a bit. My biggest concern leading up to the Southern California Tough Mudder was endurance and conditioning, especially in the later stages of the event.
